Making Festival Call Out for Demonstrators
The Ulster Folk Museum are passionate about preserving and nurturing Northern Ireland’s unique heritage skills, customs and traditions. The Making Festival is a two day celebration of these skills held in collaboration with the Construction Industry Training Board Northern Ireland (CITB NI).
The Folk Museum Making Festival was first held in August 2023. It attracted over 2,000 visitors across the two days, and featured a variety of makers from different disciplines including stained glass, signwriting, blacksmithing, basket weaving, leatherwork, woodturning, thatching and many more. There were also opportunities for people to get involved with have-a-go activities. The format will remain similar in 2024, and it is expected that the festival will grow and visitor numbers will increase in the Festival’s second year. The dates for the 2024 edition of the festival are the 17th and 18th August 2024
The festival attracted a wide audience, from children and young families to older people; with both local people and those from overseas attending. The audience was very engaged, asking lots of questions, having a go, and making time to see as many activities as they could.
For this second edition the Ulster Folk Museum are working with Craft NI to select demonstrators in applied arts/craft in order to showcase a full range of heritage crafts and skills.
