forgotten spaces: open call

Belfast is full of underused, overlooked and unloved spaces. Pockets of neglected land, development sites in limbo, vacant buildings, lonely car parks, empty windows. The first step to change is imagining how something could be different from what is now, so let’s bring these forgotten spaces into focus.

This Open Call is the first phase of a process where we will highlight, gather and map a range of overlooked, underused and unloved spaces with the view to making actual use of them in future programming with the Imagine! Festival and other partners.

We want citizens of Belfast to share the unloved spaces of the city which catch their attention. Maybe you have a story of what they once were, what you imagine they could be, or even find a particular beauty/interest in what they are at the moment. There's no right or wrong answer - let's see what's out there!

Submissions will be exhibited (with a public vote) on the Imagine Belfast Festival website (imaginebelfast.com) during March 2023, mapped and presented at a special focus event and prize giving during the festival on 22 March (see details on the imagine Belfast website) . Category prizes of (£100, £75 and £50) will be allocated by public vote and by a selection panel announced on 22 March at the event.

Notes

- There is no restriction on who can enter but please no more than 3 entries per person.

- Spaces featured must be within the Belfast City Council boundary
